The "8" Form: An Exercise for New Students
This drill, created by George Mattson, helps develop in new students an awareness of the eight basic sliding steps taken in Karate where a Sanchin stance is utilized. Movement One starts by sliding forward with the right foot, following through with the left. Return to the original position by sliding back with the left foot first, then the right. Two begins with the left foot etc. Once the basic movements can be performed smoothly, the student can add blocks, punches and kicks.
